The dismal recruitment scenario in the country seems to have left IIT Kharagpur untouched with more than 110 students in their final year already having enviable job offers with them. The placement season starts in December but the jobs offers have already started pouring in for these students and more.
Global giants like Google US, Deutsche Bank, Microsoft, Unilever, Transoceans and Samsung have been vying with each other to recruit these students. The highest package this season at the institute till now is around Rs 93 lakh by Google US.
Showing a 100% growth in pre-placement records, IIT Kharagpur has come further from 54 pre-placement offers in 2011 to the current 110 placements in 2013. Departments like electronics, computer science, IT as well as core engineering departments like mechanical, civil and electrical are more popular than the others.
Around 2,418 students will be opting for placements this year as compared to 1900 last year according to the institute’s placement office. Director PP Chakraborty feels that this trend only proves that IIT Kharagpur is on top of the minds of the corporate recruiters and hopes that the trend will continue through the placement season
